The Way of Mourning

This film grapples with mental health, suicide, and what happens to the loved ones who are left behind.  Using a limited costume palette of black, white, and grey, the characters are placed in stark contrast to their mausoleum-like house and cavernous basement. Metaphor and the use of magic realism transforms the environment allowing it to embody and reflect their trauma, loss, and love for the dead “Phelia.” Without a specified  timeline the audience finds the characters suspended in their grief. As the the film progresses they are able to find a path toward healing.
